The Most Common Timeshare Scams

Scams By Mail:

scams by mailThe honest truth about many of the scams by mail is this. They will do anything to get you to pay an upfront fee in exchange for the most amazing benefits (or so they say). Some of these companies will tell you that you will become free of any obligations, you'll get a tax deduction, and the list goes on and on.

Don't believe it – not even for a second. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

Give Me The Difference Scam:timeshare scammer

This is much like what Nigerian scammers do to people in 1000 different ways. All I can say is this... If you find yourself going to Western Union, paying a stranger from who knows where, and losing your money – then stop yourself before you ever start. Never pay anyone like this. It's a scam 99% of the time.

Upfront Fees:

You will see this everywhere, but avoid it. Never pay upfront fees for things like “appraisal fees”, “marketing fees”, etc... It's usually just another ploy to get your money and it's not going to help you sell your timeshare.

How To Protect Yourself:

Always investigate a company before you do any significant amount of business with them. This means: looking them up on the Internet, check with the Better Business Bureau, and ask friends and family who might know anything.

If you are working with company that is either (a) pressuring you to act or (b) promising the moon, then steer clear. These are the tell-tale signs of a desperate scammer in this industry.
